Privacy policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
The short version
- We keep only what the game needs to work: your captain, your progress, your friends and your matches.
- If you sign in with Google or Discord, we never see your password, and the game never uses your email, real name or photo.
- We don't show ads, and we never sell or share your information with advertisers.
- You can turn off play stats in Settings, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Who we are
Boomtide is a free online ship battle game made by an independent developer. "We" and "us" in this policy mean the people who make Boomtide. If you have a question about your information, email [email protected] or ask on our Discord.
What we keep, and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| An account ID | A random code that ties your captain to you, so your progress is there next time you play. |
| Your email address, if you sign in with Google or Discord | Google or Discord sends it when you sign in, and our sign-in service stores it with your login. The game never reads it, shows it to anyone, or emails you. |
| Your captain | Your captain name, level, wins, ship and items, so you can keep playing where you left off. |
| Friends and blocks | Who you've added as a friend and who you've blocked, so friends can find you and blocked captains can't. |
| Your last 20 matches | So you can look back at how your recent matches went. |
| Reports | If you report someone, or someone reports you, we keep the report and the chat the reporter could see at the time, so we can check what happened and keep the game safe. |
| Play stats (you can turn these off) | Which screens you visit and how your matches go, so we can see what's confusing and make the game better. They're stored under a scrambled code instead of your account, never include your name or chat, and are deleted after 180 days. |
Chat messages are passed on to the other players and not kept, except when they're part of a report. We also keep a record of how ships move and fight in each match to make the computer-controlled captains smarter. Those records aren't linked to you.
Your connection's internet (IP) address is used for a short time to stop floods of fake connections. We only ever write it down in a scrambled form that can't be turned back into your address.
On your device
The game saves your settings and your login on your phone or computer, in your browser's storage. We don't use cookies or anything else to track you across other websites.
Who else handles it
We use a few services to run the game. They handle your information only to do that job for us:
- Supabase runs our accounts and stores the information above.
- Render runs the game server that your matches are played on.
- Cloudflare delivers the website and runs a quick "are you human?" check before you can chat with strangers.
- Google or Discord, only if you choose to sign in with them.
Our game server is in the United States, and these services may store and handle your information there.
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your captain for as long as you have an account. Play stats are deleted after 180 days. If you play without signing in, your captain lives only on that device and browser, and signing out loses it for good.
Your choices
- Play stats: turn off "Share play stats" in Settings, under Privacy.
- Chat: turn off "Chat with other captains" in Settings, and block anyone you don't want to hear from.
- Delete your account: email [email protected] with your captain name. We'll delete your captain, friends, matches and play stats. We may ask you to show the account is yours first.
- A copy or a correction: wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we keep about you, or ask us to fix something that's wrong.
Young players
Boomtide is for players aged 13 and over, or older where your country's law requires it, because you can chat with other players. If you think a child under 13 is playing, email us and we'll delete their account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If it's a big change, we'll also say so in the game or on our Discord.
